Women in Finance: Why having women on your wealth management team is vital to your success

Kent S. Skornia, President & CEO

When I was a kid embarking on all sorts of harrowing adventures, whenever I needed guidance or help, I sought out one person: my mom. She was nurturing, tough when she had to be, but compassionate when compassion was needed. In a nutshell: I trusted her.

Come to think of it, I trusted most of the women I grew up with. They were my teachers, psychologists, and experts in logistics. Moms got stuff done. They were smart, capable, and knew the ins and outs of everything important to us. We knew we’d be safe as they helped us navigate the most important journeys in our lives…

…and the same is true today. Consider these statistics:

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, 58% of women participate in the labor force. Of that percentage, over 7 in 10 are moms who have children under the age of 18. (*)

Women work in literally every facet of our lives. There are more female doctors, lawyers, film directors, chefs, plumbers, and CEO’s than in any other time in history.

According to a study at Virginia Tech, a staggering 90% of household financial prowess is controlled by women… from gathering provisions to having the final say on purchases of home and car related needs. But this is not just about women running the ship.

According to the same Virginia Tech Study, 51% of all stocks, and 60% of total personal wealth is controlled by women… with that number expected to jump to 2/3 within the next 7 years. Women run 40% of all private American businesses.

Still not impressed? According to leading sources like Forbes and Inc. Magazine, a whopping $7 trillion dollars are contributed by women in the U.S. in both consumer and business spending. Trillion. With a “T.”

Want more? Women over 50 have a combined net-worth in excess of $19 trillion dollars.

All of this is fantastic news… unless you’re trying to sell them something. While half of products typically marketed to men are actually purchased by women, 91% of women say that advertisers simply don’t understand their needs. (**)

At Krilogy Financial, we believe this is unacceptable.

Since our inception, we have understood the importance and benefit of having a team of caring, capable women and men throughout our company. Women hold virtually every position that men do at Krilogy, from Partner to New Business Specialist. They are accomplished, educated, and dedicated, holding credentials ranging from Juris Doctor (JD), Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Accredited Investment Advisor (AIF®), Personal Financial Specialist (PSF), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified IRA Services Professional (CISP®),Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA), among others. In more personal cases like will executorship or finances after divorce, they are even more sought after, offering a level of empathy married with business acumen that is unmatched.

Women have also changed the culture in many of the ways we do things. They taught us a better way to invest our clients’ time during the initial interview process, creating a best practice we would not have had otherwise.

And just as I always knew growing up, women get stuff done.

The women of Krilogy are driven, and flourish in this environment where more seasoned, senior female advisors mentor young men and women alike, challenging all to think outside the box, and to offer their diverse viewpoints. They continue to teach us how to be better advocates for your needs… creating a stronger, more balanced, more compassionate company where your goals are the focus of all we do.

At Krilogy, you don’t just get one advisor; you get a team of diverse professionals dedicated to your present and future financial goals. Our investment committee, advisors, and support staff work in tandem to assist you in obtaining personal and financial objectives. Together, we care for you like you’re part of our family. To us, that’s who you are.

Because deep down, we think every financial decision you make should evoke the same feeling you got from the women in your life whenever you had a question, fear, opportunity or concern…

…that you are important, and that everything is going to be okay.
